Dark chocolate chips in summer desserts
Updated September 2026
Dark chocolate and summer fruit make an easy dessert together. Keep a bag of chips nearby for berries and yogurt, ice cream or a handful of trail mix.
Our 68% Cacao Dark Chocolate Chips contain cacao, sugar and cacao butter. They come in an 8-ounce bag. Read the product's current ingredient and shared-facility notice before choosing them for anyone with a food allergy.
Ice cream with chocolate crunch
Sprinkle chips over a scoop of ice cream, or roughly chop them for smaller bits in each spoonful. Cherry, coffee and mint ice creams give you different flavors to try beside dark chocolate.
If you're making ice cream at home, follow a complete ice cream recipe and its instructions for adding mix-ins. Freezing an unchurned mixture of milk, cream and sugar alone won't reliably give you a scoopable result. Chocolate gets firmer in the freezer, so small pieces are easier to eat than large chunks.
Freezer-set yogurt with chocolate chips
Combine 2 cups full-fat Greek yogurt, 1/3 cup honey or maple syrup, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips. Mix the yogurt, sweetener and vanilla first, then stir in the chips.
Transfer to a freezer-safe container, cover and freeze for at least 4 hours. This mixture sets firmly; it won't have the same texture as churned frozen yogurt. Let it soften for 5 to 10 minutes before trying to serve it, allowing longer if needed. You can also enjoy the mixture chilled without freezing it.
Chopped nuts, toasted coconut or a spoonful of nut butter add another texture if they suit the people you're serving. Keep the yogurt refrigerated until you're ready to prepare or serve it.
Fruit parfaits
Layer yogurt, berries or sliced banana, granola and chocolate chips in a glass. Repeat until the glass is full, keeping a little granola and chocolate for the top. Add the granola shortly before serving if you want it to stay crunchy.
Raspberries give you a tart bite beside the chocolate. Banana makes a softer, sweeter layer. Use the fruit you have and keep the parfait chilled until serving.
Chocolate chip ice pops
For these ice pops, use 2 cups of milk, coconut milk or fruit juice, 1 tablespoon honey or another sweetener, and 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips. The liquid you choose changes the flavor and how icy the finished pop feels.
Mix the liquid and sweetener thoroughly. Stir in the chips, pour into ice-pop molds with a little space at the top, and freeze until solid. Chips can settle, so stir the mixture again as you fill the molds. Run warm water over the outside of a mold briefly to help release a pop.
Trail mix, kept out of the heat
Combine equal parts nuts and seeds, then add dried fruit equal to half the amount of that mixture. Finish with a handful of chocolate chips. Dried cherries or chopped apricots bring a chewy, tart contrast.
Keep it in a closed container in a cool place. On a warm day, use an insulated bag or add the chocolate just before eating. A bag left in a hot car can turn your separate chips into one chocolate-covered cluster.
